Print Area

What Is Print Area?

The print area is the maximum space on a product where your design can be printed. In print-on-demand, this area is defined by the printing method and product type. For example:

1. T-Shirt: A3 size (11.7" × 16.5") for large chest/back prints
2. Pocket print: Around 4" × 4"
3. Mug: Wrap area of 8.6" × 3.7" (varies by size)

Why it matters:

No stock risk

1. Determines how big your design can appear
2. Affects printing cost (larger areas cost more
3. Ensures designs don’t get cut or distorted

Always check your supplier’s print area guidelines before creating artwork to avoid reprints or alignment issues.

Artwork Size

The physical dimensions of your design file. It should match the print area or be slightly larger to ensure full coverage.

Example: If your print area is 12" × 16", your artwork size should be exactly that or slightly bigger.

Print Placement

The exact position where the design is printed on the product (e.g., center chest, left pocket, sleeve, back). Placement choices affect visibility and style.

DPI (Dots Per Inch)

A measure of print resolution. Higher DPI means sharper, more detailed prints. POD designs should generally be 300 DPI for professional results.

Design Template

A guide file (usually PNG, PSD, or AI) provided by your printer that shows the exact print area and placement zones. It ensures your artwork fits perfectly without important parts being cut off.
